AN INQUEST into the death of 15-year-old Cwmbran High School pupil Rebecca Brabon has been opened and adjourned.
Senior coroner for Gwent David Bowen was told at a hearing in Newport that emergency services were called to a property at Neerings in the Coed Eva area of the town, shortly after 4.30pm on Sunday March 19.
A post mortem examination subsequently revealed that the provisional cause of the teenager’s death was asphyxia.
Police inquiries into Miss Brabon’s death are continuing, and Mr Bowen adjourned the inquest for two months so the investigation can be completed.
A statement issued by the school last week in the aftermath of Miss Brabon’s death read: “The whole school is shocked and saddened by this tragic news, and out hearts go out to the family of this student at this difficult time.”
Friends described Miss Brabon on Facebook as a “lovely girl” and expressed shock and sympathy to her family.
