A STUDENT teacher who died following a crash on the A48 earlier this month, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, an inquest was told.
Twenty-one year-old Rhiannon Smith, of Llandevaud, died at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff on March 22, six days after the two-vehicle collision which happened on the Langstone stretch of the A48.
The incident involved a Range Rover Evoque and a Toyota Yaris, and happened at around 7.30am on Thursday March 16.
A statement from Miss Smith’s family, released after her death, said “she will be sorely missed, never forgotten and impossible to replace.”
Miss Smith had completed a degree in sociology at Cardiff University last year, and had been set to complete a postgraduate course in Gloucester this year, to enable her to become a teacher.
Police inquiries into the crash are continuing, and senior coroner for Gwent David Bowen adjourned the inquest for three months to enable these investigations to be completed.
