A PAGEANT queen from Caerphilly county borough is hoping to promote female empowerment and self confidence in young girls after scooping a Wales-wide crown earlier this month.

Onyekachi Uwandulu, aged 16, has been fundraising, hosting events and taking part in pageants for years, including being named as Junior Miss Caerphilly Galaxy in 2014.

After winning Miss Teen Galaxy Wales title this month, the Abercarn teen will compete in America with other pageant winners to form Team UK. Looking forward, the teen also hopes to visit schools across Wales to give talks on self confidence to younger girls.

Miss Uwandulu described the win as “the most incredible moment” adding there was “relief that what I had done had lived up to my expectations”.

“I’m really honoured and excited for what the next year holds,” she said.

Mum Tami Uwandulu added: “She’s fitted a lot in her little life and has done amazing”.
