WHAT a fantastic weekend for Newport with the staging of two events which brought hundreds of people right into the heart of the city.

On Saturday Record Store Day saw numerous bands performing at different venues across the city as people were drawn into town by the prospect of vinyl record offers.

This is a national event launched in order to support small independent record shops, but one which has been really picked up in Newport.

The event here started off a few years ago and was initially quite low key as things like this so often are.

But as with the Food Festival in October small events can often snowball into something much bigger.

Thanks to the backing of Newport Now the event on Saturday was the biggest and best yet.

Meanwhile on Sunday the city centre paid host to a totally different event but one which nonetheless attracted hundreds of people out onto the streets.

This was for the scouting movement’s annual St George’s Day parade, which saw children of all ages parading through the city for their patron saint.

What a sight to see and once again proof that events like this can act as a great catalyst for attracting visitors to the city centre.
