MORE than 70 cars were stopped in Newport last week after police officers carried out a multi-agency operation.
In total 71 vehicles were stopped and escorted into a check site near the Coldra Roundabout, where the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, Department for Work and Pensions, Immigration, HM Revenue and Customs and Newport City Licensing were present to conduct checks and enquiries.
During the operation officers issued 20 Traffic Offence Reports for various offences including β no licence, no insurance, no MOT, vehicle in dangerous condition.
Officers also seized nine vehicles under the Section 165 Road Traffic Act for no licence or no insurance and arrested one man for failing the roadside drug test.
Inspector Matthew Havard said: βThe operation was a mixture of enforcement and education and we will continue to run these multiagency operations to catch dangerous drivers.
"As a result of the day of action we seized a considerable number un-roadworthy vehicles, uninsured vehicles, reported drivers who will lose their driving licence and issued substantial penalties.β
