BLACK VEIN MINERS MEMORIAL SOCIETY: Michael West Finalist in the Caerphilly County Borough 2016 “Pride In Your Place - Environmental Champion” awards category, and committee member of the Black Vein Memorial Society, presented Society Secretary, Stephen Lyons, with £50 Finalist Award.

The newly formed society is now actively raising funds to replace the rotting fence at the Green Meadow Burial Ground.

QUIZ TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE TREDEGAR PARK FOLK FESTIVAL: Quiz to be held at Crosskeys Rugby Club on Monday April 24, starting at 8pm. £2 per person to enter and teams of up to 6 people make up the format.

LOCAL ELECTIONS QUESTION TIME: The local council elections are almost upon us again and this year they will be held on Thursday May 4. 

To whet your appetite for these important elections the student politics society at the Crosskeys campus of Coleg Gwent are hosting a

Pan-Caerphilly County Borough Council Election Question Time on the evening of Wednesday April 26. 

Panel members include (Cllr Colin Mann (leader of the Plaid Cymru group on CCBC), Clr Nigel George (Labour party, Risca East) Cllr Nigel Dix (Independent Cllr for Blackwood) Jago Lewis (Conservative prospective council candidate for Newbridge), and prospective council candidates from UKIP and the Welsh Lib Dems. 

The event is chaired by the South Wales based actor Stephen Lyons.  

This is your chance to put topical questions and debate with local party leaders and prospective council candidates. Join us for refreshments, and to get your questions for the panel in, from 6.30pm. The event will be held at the Old Library at the Crosskeys campus. There is ample parking and the general public are most welcome to participate. 

Doors open at 6.30pm and the debate starts promptly at 7pm and closes at 8.30pm. 

This is a free community event in association with Crosskeys and Pontywaun Partnership and Coleg Gwent Crosskeys.

RISCA MUSEUM: On April 29 the volunteers that man the Risca Museum will be involved in an all-day event at the Llanhilleth Institute. 
Therefore, the museum will not be able to be open during its normal times but will instead be open from 4.15pm to 6pm for that day only. 
Apologies for this necessary change but perhaps those who have other commitments during our normal opening times can take advantage of this special opportunity.

MEN’S BREAKFAST AT MORIAH BAPTIST CHURCH: There will be another Men’s Breakfast at Moriah Baptist Church Risca at 8.30am on Saturday April 29. 
The guest speaker is Nigel James a ‘Tour Pastor’ with a Christian Band called Third Day.

CROSSKEYS METHODIST CHURCH CHORAL CONCERT: On Monday May 8 a choral concert will be held at Crosskeys Methodist Church High Street Crosskeys. 

The concert is entitled ‘Songs for Spring’ and is presented by Newbridge Ladies Choir. 

It commences at 7pm and is open to everyone.
