TICKETS have gone on sale for our musical extravaganza that will celebrate our 125th anniversary.

We are inviting Argus readers to come celebrate with us in the company of West End and television actor Gerard Carey who will be appearing at the special event to celebrate the South Wales Argus’ 125 years of publication.

The event will raise money for the 125 Appeal, and all profits from the night will be donated to the St David’s Hospice Care to support the essential work they do.

Mr Carey most recently played Lord Farquaad in the award-winning Shrek musical and he has appeared in the BBC series Torchwood and Love Soup. Music is in his blood as his own parents would appear in variety shows in Wales.

The special event, which will take place at the Coldra Court Hotel on May 14, will be an evening of food and laughs with songs from shows past and present that will be performed by Mr Carey.

The event will be a musical celebration as Mr Carey explains: “The evening will be a celebration of songs past and present. There will be some old tunes people will recognise, but it is integrated with humour and audience participation.”

He added: “I love performing in front of a Welsh audience. I don’t get back to Wales much because most of my work is in London, but it’s where my roots are and it’s where I stared honing my craft in front of audiences.

“The Welsh have an openness and a willingness to laugh and be entertained. Music is in the Welsh genetic makeup, so people love to hear good music and they like a good laugh.”

The evening is organised in conjunction with Applause Productions, a company that creates entertainment specifically for each event.

Tickets for the Argus’ 125 celebration are on now sale for £35 including a three-course meal and entrance to the event.
