A CWMBRAN teenager will appear for a contested hearing trial in June after pleading not guilty to four assault offences.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged last week, after his arrest on Wednesday, April 19.

He appeared at Cwmbran Youth Court on Tuesday, April 25, facing two charges of sexual assault as well as one of assault by beating and one of common assault.

The four offences occurred within a three month period, all of which took place in the Cwmbran area.

Last month, Gwent Police launched an e-fit appeal after receiving reports of an assault on a teenage girl in Cwmbran.

A girl was assaulted having just entered a lane at the side of Henllys Way, Cwmbran, which runs between Ty-Canol Row and The Neerings.

The 17-year-old youth was granted conditional bail by district judge Richard Williams, which will run until his court date. He must wear an electronic tag and will be subject to a curfew between 3pm and 9.15am, while subject to an intensive supervision and surveillance order. He will also be banned from entering Cwmbran unless accompanied by a designated member of his family, a social worker or member of the youth offending service.

The hearing will take place at Cwmbran Youth Court on Friday, June 9, after the ground rules for the trial are set on Tuesday, May 23.
