GWENT Police have named the elderly man who died following an incident at Festival Park, in Ebbw Vale, on Sunday.

Brian Overfield, 80, from the Abertillery area sustained head injuries after getting out a black Smart car and falling over.

He later died in hospital.

An air ambulance was called to the scene, around 12.45pm.

Officers are currently investigating and anyone with information is urged to call the police on 212 21/05/17.

AN APPEAL for information has been launched by Gwent Police after an elderly man was said to have been hit by a car at Festival Park in Ebbw Vale and died.

The fatal incident occurred around 12.45pm, with an 80-year-old man taken to the University Hospital of Wales. He later died.

It is thought the man had earlier been a passenger in the car which hit him.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “The incident involved one vehicle which is a black coloured Smart Car. This vehicle was occupied by two persons a female driver and a male passenger.

“The male passenger, who is 80 years of age, alighted the vehicle and for circumstances unknown at this time, has fallen to the floor and received serious head injuries.

“It was later confirmed that the male had passed away whilst in hospital.”

A spokesman for the Wales Ambulance Service added that an air ambulance was used in the attempt to treat the man.

He said: “We were called at about 12.45pm on Sunday to reports that a man had been hit by a car at the Festival Park shopping centre in Ebbw Vale.

“We sent the Wales Air Ambulance, a crew in an emergency ambulance and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and an elderly man was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales in a serious condition.”
