GWENT is set to bask in the sun with temperatures potentially reaching 27 mark in some areas, before thundery showers and storms arrive in Wales.

Across the region, temperatures will be easily in the mid-20s, with highs of 23 in Blackwood and Caerphilly, 24 in Newport, Pontypool and Caldicot and 25 in Abergavenny.

The Met Office added the warm weather will continue into Saturday, before fresher weather, and possibly rain showers, arrive on Sunday and Monday of next week.

“Friday will be dry, sunny and hot again everywhere,” said a Met Office forecaster.

“A brisk warm breeze will develop, particularly in the south-west. A little fair weather cloud may develop in the east later.

“After a warm sunny evening, most places will have another mild rather muggy night.

“Heavy and thundery showers will arrive in the south-west in the early hours.

“Saturday will be hot again in the east but those heavy, thundery showers will move further north-eastwards, leaving fresher but still warm weather in the southwest for the afternoon.

“Sunday will be fresher, though mostly dry with sunny spells.

“Heavy overnight showers in the east will continue into Monday.

“Tuesday will probably be dry and warm with sunny spells.”
