INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATION: Last weeks International Mass at St Patrick’s Church, Newport, was an absolute feast for the ears, eyes and pallet. Many parishioner’s had dressed up in clothing from their motherlands creating an almost carnival atmosphere and a riot of colour.

Prayers were offered in more than a dozen languages by families representing Europe, Asia and Africa.

Every participant proudly wearing their national colours and had big beaming smile on their faces.

The congregation were treated to some excellent music.

The resident folk choir were on top form as always boosted by solo’s from future superstar Alzbetta Matyskova and the incredible voice of Jana Sardikova.

The music and singing was so good I was surprised that Father Brian Cuddihy hadn’t sold tickets to get in.

It really was an interesting and joyous occasion.

As if all that wasn’t enough. Immediately following the service a table of tucker was laid out featuring the culinary delights of all the country’s represented at the Mass.

Not a burger or chip in sight, obviously no Americans or Barry the Burger at the Mass. What was there was delicious.

Proudly representing Wales I must confess Pam Podmore’s Bara Brith did us proud.
