CHILDREN from a primary school in Blaenavon swapped the maths textbooks for mini trampolines to support the South Wales Argus’ 125 Appeal.

Completing a total of 25,000 bounces between them, the foundation phase at Blaenavon Heritage VC Primary School took part in the sponsored bounce today.

Around 200 pupils, aged between four and seven, participated in the sponsored springing, to support the 125 Appeal which is raising money for St David's Hospice Care to commemorate 125 years since the creation of the Argus.

“As it is national school sports week, we are taking part in two sponsored events to raise money for the 125 appeal fund,” said year one teacher and PE co-ordinator Leanne Jones.

“The first event was around 200 children from the foundation phase completing 125 bounces on little trampolines.

“The children absolutely loved the jumping and I am sure that they will sleep well tonight.”

This Friday, the older students at the Torfaen school will be getting their skates on in order to complete the second challenge.

“Later this week, the children from key stage two will be taking part in another challenge to pass their grade one in roller skating within 30 minutes,” added Mrs Jones.

The second event will involve pupils aged between eight and 11 and another 200 students will be participating.

Mrs Jones added the school has set itself a target of how much they would like to achieve with the two 125 fundraisers.

“We would like to try and raise £125 for the first event and also £125 from the event on Friday,” she said.
