MACEY Morris continued her impressive season when she briefly moved to the top of the 2017 UK rankings for the under-15 girls’ 300m and went second on the Welsh all-time list.

Newport Harriers ace Morris clocked a personal best of 40.86secs when winning during the latest round of the UK Youth Development U13/U15 League Division Midlands South/West 1B.

Running on home soil at the Newport Stadium, Morris, her age group’s Welsh champion over 200m earlier this month, also broke a Harriers’ record previously held by training partner Armani Williams.

Morris’ time was the fastest in Great Britain until Blackheath & Bromley Harriers’ Holly Mpassy, competing in Division South Premier 1 of the league on the same day, ran 40.69secs.

Meanwhile, Morris’ mark was 0.22secs shy of the best Welsh time, which was set by Cwmbran Harriers’ Gabrielle Fakande in Cardiff two years ago.

It will be interesting to see who, out of Morris and Mpassy, comes out on top at the British Championships in August.

Also in Newport, Morris won the 100m with almost half-a-second to spare, while her club under-15 high jump record of 1.58m was equalled by Amy Jenkins.

Jenkins was a clear winner of the event and nearly cleared 1.60m on her second attempt.

Lily Hart made it three club records with her time of 4:17.30mins in the under-13 girls’ 1200m.

Kelechi Maduako posted 13.68secs and 28.22secs to take first in the under-13 boys’ 100m and 200m respectively.

Morgan Keen Williams also scored well with second in the javelin, third in the B 100m race and fourth in the long jump, while there were 800m personal bests for Leo Stark and Isaac Jones.

In the under-13 girls’ events, Amelia Fettis won the shot and consolidated her place at the top of the Welsh rankings with a new personal best of 9.22m.

Tiwaah Boateng and Amelia Roche both recorded lifetime bests for 75m, while Cordelia Goodger was just outside her personal best.

Roche also produced a new personal best at 150m, as did Olivia Reid, and Phoebe McCouaig went second in the Welsh rankings after a PB in the javelin.

Ama Boateng (200m), Maisie Ovey (300m), Michael Owen (300m) and Joshua Davies (300m and 800m) also clocked personal bests in the under-15 competition.

In addition, Caitlin Arnold broke her own club record for the under-17 girls’ shot put at the Avon AA Open meeting with a throw of 12.39m.

Training partner Fettis then broke Arnold’s own under-13 club record with 9.96m.
