A NEWPORT man has became the 19th person to be jailed for drug offences following a large-scale police operation in the city.

Salim Miah, 24, was sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment for being concerned in the supply of heroin after pleading guilty at Newport Crown Court on Monday morning.

He was one of the 33 people that were arrested following the Gwent Police raids on April 26, which formed the second part of Operation Jewels.

More than 250 officers carried out sweeps at addresses across Newport in a bid to tackle illegal drug supply.

During the search of 14 homes, a quantity of cash, Class A drugs and paraphernalia was seized.
