WELSH firms will benefit from last week's announcement of a new £30 million Spanish-run train factory in Newport to create more investment in Wales, first minister Carwyn Jones has said.

Earlier this week Spanish firm Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) announced it would create 300 new jobs with a new factory at the Celtic Business Park.

And, speaking at a Welsh Government committee after the announcement, Newport East AM John Griffiths asked the first minister if this would be used to create further investment in the area.

He said: "Will Welsh Government ensure that we can build on this with further inward investment coming into Newport?

"We need to be confident that local firms will benefit, by being able to supply equipment and resources to CAF."

Mr Jones replied: "Welsh Government are committed to do this and it is a very exciting development, bringing a new kind of manufacturing into the area."
