THE mum of a boy who fell more than four storeys from a building has spoken of her joy at seeking him back on his feet after fearing he would never walk again.

Kate Sherwin called her son Callum Crowley "a miracle", referring to his speedy recovery following the incident on Saturday, May 6.

Callum Crowley, of Southville, Cwmbran, fell more than forty foot from flats in Llewellyn Road in Southville after climbing scaffolding on the outside of the building.

The 12-year-old pupil of Talocher School, Monmouth, has been receiving treatment at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff, having moved from Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, near Oxford.

He was treated for broken ribs, internal injuries and injuries to his back in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children after coming out of intensive care.

Despite fears that he may never walk again Callum is now able to swim and walk with an aid.

Miss Sherwin, of Clos Cae Nant, Southville, said she was “so proud” of the determination shown by her son.

“He’s amazing and he is trying so hard," she said. "He’s grumpy in the morning because he doesn’t want to do anything but when we get him out he does try really hard.”

The 34-year-old said that Callum can walk with aids and can swim but still cannot feel his feet, bladder and bowel.

She said: “He feels like he is walking just on bone but it’s a miracle. It’s just amazing.

"He’s made a good friend here as well as they are bouncing off each other. He is doing really well.”

Miss Sherwin has been regularly posting videos of Callum on her Facebook to show his recovery process.

She also said a date has been set for the first time he will be allowed home since being taken to hospital.

"He will be coming home this Friday and then we will be going back on the Tuesday," she said. "It will be so nice to have him home."

And with his current recovery, Miss Sherwin said the hospital staff have said Callum could be going home for good at the end of September.

She said: "We can't believe it, at the beginning we were told it could be six to nine months until he was allowed home but it has been five.

"We thought we would never see him walking at all."

Miss Sherwin is currently trying to raise money to take Callum to Legoland for the day.

"I would love to take Callum to Legoland one weekend over night as he is so bored on the weekends."
