HUNDREDS of people turned out to show their support for a hospice at a fundraiser yesterday.

St David’s Hospice Care’s Rock on the Rooftop event is usually held on the roof of the Celtic Manor Resort, but the weather had different ideas and the party went ahead indoors.

The hospice said in a message to attendees: “Due to this miserable wet weather we have had to make a very hard decision and move this year’s Rock on the Rooftop inside”.

However, the rain didn’t dampen the mood as people danced the day away to bands including The Switchtones, Ruby and the Valentines, Soul’d as Seen, Ragsy and Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band.

Emma Saysell, CEO at St David’s Hospice Care, said: “We couldn’t have gone outside, but everyone had a great time. There was a mass balloon pop and anyone who found a winning ticket got a prize. It was really good fun.”

One of the highlights was the St David’s Hospice Harmony Choir, which is made up of patients and their loved ones. They had their first public performance at the event, and many of the guests were emotional following their appearance.

“Their performance brought the house down. The last song was Bridge over Troubled Water and they did it recognition of the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire. Karl Dymond led the choir and he was amazing.

Ms Saysell said: “What the choir does is show that the hospice not only does work physically supporting people, the work stretches out to other areas too.”

Almost 500 people came to show their support and and they enjoyed entertainment and a lavish hog roast.
