A VETERANS’ rugby club is aiming to raise funds for good causes in its community.

The Cefn Fforest Bulldogs is a club for veterans over the age of 35 to play sport and get together at the Cefn Fforest Central Club and Institute in Blackwood.

The club, which has around 30 members and players, is now looking to support local charities or causes in the area that they can sponsor for games or hold events for.

Scott Alderman, who set up the Cefn Fforest Bulldogs, said: “A lot of us are ex-rugby players and we are too old to play properly anymore. We all decided to get together and make this sort of a regular thing. We’re looking to play once every five/six weeks and are wanting to get the community together.”

Since setting the group up five or six weeks, Mr Alderman said the he and the other members want to start working together with charities to help them raise some money.

“We want to arrange some community events and get the village together and it can also help relive our youth,” he said.

“The club is becoming quite a popular thing now and it’s about getting together. It’s a real relaxed atmosphere. To be fair we probably do more talking than playing. We have also just ordered the kit which we are really excited about.”

The Cefn Fforest Bulldogs is asking any local charities to get in touch with them. Call Scott Alderman on 07811038393.
