A DECISION to refuse planning permission for a two-storey extension to the side of a house in the Nash area of Newport has been overturned.
Newport City Council blocked the application for The Shrubbery in Straits Lane in December last year on the grounds the extension, which would increase the size of the house by 50 per cent, it would be "overly bulky" and would damage the surrounding area.
But the decision has been overturned by a planning inspector, who said the extension "would not cause any unacceptable harm to the character or appearance of the countryside".
In a report the inspector said: "Given the existing dwellings along the lane are spread out and diverse in appearance and form, it is not considered the volume increase would result in any material visual harm."
