A FAST food restaurant in the centre of Newport must remove a “poor quality” shopfront after a planning inspector threw out an appeal against an order.
In January Newport City Council refused a retrospective planning application to retain a new shopfront at Efes Grill in Cambrian Road.
In its decision notice the authority said the development was “a poor quality, inappropriate and unsympathetic alteration” and “stands out as an obtrusive addition to the building and wider street scene”.
Although applicant Nurettin Gundogdu appealed against the decision, it was upheld by a planning inspector, who called the new shopfront "a cumbersome insertion that overwhelms the original building".
The council will now serve an enforcement notice requiring the business to remove the shopfront.
