RAIL passengers will see disruption this month due to engineering works being carried out between Newport and Cardiff.

According to information published in Arriva Trains Wales website, replacement buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Newport on Saturday 26, on Sunday 27 and on Monday, August 28 until 1pm.

This is due to the line being closed due to engineering works.

Replacement buses will also be on operation in the first weekend of September.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, September 9, and Sunday, September 10, trains will be subject to being slightly retimed.

Arriva Trains Wales has said that buses may also run on that weekend to supplement trains.

From Sunday, September 24, to Friday, September 29, there will be an amended train service.

On the weekend, buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Newport due to the line being closed.

From Monday to Friday, various lines will be closed, meaning trains will be retimed.

When the work was announced in July Andy Thomas, Network Rail route managing director for Wales, said: “We recognise that passengers will face some disruption, and we understand how frustrating this can be but this work is essential in preparing Cardiff for new electric trains as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan.

“We would like to thank passengers for their ongoing patience as we undertake this essential engineering work. We will continue to work closely with our partners at Arriva Trains Wales and Great Western Railway to ensure passengers are able to get to where they need to be during this period.”
