AN EXOTIC meats restaurant which closed last month is set to re-open this week under new tenants who are also offering free flights in an aircraft.

The Farmer’s Daughter, in Bassaleg, opened in 1983 and was known for serving an array of dishes, including zebra, crocodile, kangaroo and camel. It closed briefly last month.

Councillor David Williams, whose wife is the owner, previously said that the past tenants had "wanted to move on".

But now chef Julio and Sian Fagnani have taken on the restaurant and plan to continue to serve exotic meals as well as classic dishes.

Mr Fagnani, who has worked in Italy, said: "We are hoping to open this Thursday but there's a few issues with the flooring that needs fixing.

"I'll be doing some classical meals, including a beef wellington.

"We'll also be continuing to do exotic meats, such as ostrich. But I need to stress that lots of products will be drawn from local places on a daily basis."

Mrs Fagnani added that the restaurant has agreed with a local farmer to offer free flights on his aircraft.

She said: "People who come here will have the opportunity to go on a two-seated plane too.

"There's a runway next to our restaurant and a farmer has agreed to take people from our restaurant up in it when he's available.

"Customers will be able to see the local area from the aircraft."

She added: "There will also be a hot tub for people to use."

The restaurant will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch time.
