A MICHELIN-star Gwent restaurant is among just three in Wales to have been included in the Top 50 in the UK, in the latest edition of The Good Food Guide.
The 2018 edition of the Waitrose-owned guide lists The Whitebrook, at Whitebrook, in Monmouthshire, at number 49.
Run by chef patron Chris Harrod and his wife Kirsty, The Whitebrook has picked up a number of awards, including a Michelin star and four AA rosettes.
As well as top class food, The Whitebrook also has eight rooms for guests.
It is joined in The Good Food Guide 2018 Top 50 by Ynyshir in Eglwysfach, in west Wales - which is the highest ranked of the three Wales entries, at number 12 - and Restaurant James Sommerin, in Penarth, at number 35.
All three Wales entries achieved a cooking score of seven.
The Good Food Guide Top 50 is intended to recognise the very best talent in the country, and its compilers believe a place on the list represents a huge achievement.
Each restaurant earns its position by its score guide, by editor appraisal, and by the strength of reader feedback.
This year, guide editor Elizabeth Carter takes time away from praising the best, to issue a plea for a quieter dining experience.
“Restaurants are getting noisier - that’s what our readers, this year in unprecedented numbers, are telling us,” she said.
“Noise levels, already amplified by bare-bones design, are being raised by music played at Glastonbury force.”
While recognising that “everyone loves a restaurant that has a buzzing, vibrant atmosphere”, she warns that loud music can become “exhausting.”
