NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn hopes to somplete the signing of another striker today as he prepares for tomorrow’s trip to League Two leaders Coventry City.

County have been linked with a move for AFC Bournemouth forward Joe Quigley after letting Aaron Williams join Brackley Town on loan earlier this week.

And Flynn expects more incomings and outgoings before August 31.

“There are some targets that I want to get in before the end of the window but when they’ll get done I don’t know. The sooner the better for me,” said the Exiles boss.

“I don’t have to lose anybody but there might be one more going out on loan.

“Other than that I think the squad is looking quite good."

Flynn has competition in defence with Scot Bennett back to fitness and teenager Ben White impressing, while Robbie Willmott is keeping David Pipe out of the side at right wing-back.

And in midfield Reece Cole has yet to feature since joining on loan from Brentford last week, while Ben Tozer is close to a return to fitness. But the boss is confident he can keep everyone happy.

“It’s a really good group and it’s important to me the kind of characters I’ve brought in, as well as their ability,” he added.

“We’ve got a togetherness and a group who look after each other so for me there’s no problems with keeping people happy. Anybody who’s going to sulk after not playing one or two games then they’re probably not for me.

“Nobody’s done that. They’ve got on with it and tried to react in the best way, which is on the training field and when they’ve been given a chance [on the pitch].

“I’ve got no problems, they’re a great bunch of lads and it will take them a long way.”

Flynn says Williams could still figure in his plans when he returns to Rodney Parade.

“I felt Aaron was a little bit low on confidence,” he explained. “I think he needed to go out and play regular football and I’m hoping to strengthen in that area.

“He’s a great lad, he worked hard and he’s never given me a problem. He’s got a great attitude and I’m sure he’ll do well for Brackley.

“I hope he does because if he comes back in January and he’s sharp and full of confidence then you never know. I’ll never close the door on anybody. It’s down to him.”
