NEWPORT City Council would like residents’ comments on the draft supplementary planning guidance (SPG) air quality document.

The document has been prepared to supplement policies in the adopted local development plan.

“The purpose of this SPG is to help ensure consistency in the way in which air quality is dealt with through the planning system,” it says in the document. “The planning system plays a key role in protecting the environment and delivering sustainable development.”

It also says that the SPG sets out the circumstances when an assessment for air quality purposes is required and”clarifies the appropriate minimum amount of information required for the air quality assessment”.

“The aim of the background legislation and policy for air quality is to ensure that air quality does not cause harm to human health,” it adds.

The guidance document is published in draft form and comments are welcomed. To view the documents, visit bit.ly/2vaEiwT
