A COMMUNITY action day centred on tackling fly-tipping will be coming to one of Cwmbran’s hotspot areas on Thursday, August 24, aiming to improve the area for its residents.

The Oaksford Action Day starts at 11am and will involve representatives from Bron Afon Community Housing and the Fairwater ward councillors - Kelly Preston and Rose Seabourne - and officers from Torfaen council.

The area of Cwmbran has been selected after more than £16,800 was spent on sorting out fly-tipping in the area last year, according to Bron Afon.

Liz Evans, the head of Community Housing at Bron Afon, said: “Emma Fish, one of our community managers, has been working closely with councillors and local people to deal with fly-tipping in Fairwater.

“The Oaksford Action Day is a great opportunity to share concerns about the area. Torfaen’s environmental team will also be there with helpful advice on recycling.”

Cllr Fiona Cross, the executive member for the environment with Torfaen council, said: “We are committed to tackling the blight of litter and fly-tipping, and as part of our drive to create a cleaner, greener Torfaen we want to support communities to improve their areas.

“ I would like to say thank you to everyone who is taking part in this event and helping to improve their local environment for everyone

Bron Afon residents are able to report any fly-tipping or other environmental issues to bronafon.org.uk/love-where-we-live-report-form/.
