A GROUP of parents are celebrating after achieving their fundraising target six months ahead of schedule.

Special Movers is a group based in Ebbw Vale for families with children suffering from disabilities or learning difficulties.

They have planned a trip to Disneyland Paris for 2018, but needed to raise £15,000 for the 61 members to go on the trip.

Many members would not be able to go on holiday without the support of the group due to the complex needs of their children.

Michelle Stevens is one of the parents going on the trip and says the trip will be a “magical experience.”

She said: “The trip is booked and we only have one more payment to make.

“Some of the children have never been out of the country before. We could never have gone on this holiday as a family.

“Every time I talk about the trip I cry. It is such an amazing achievement. To see the children’s faces when we reached our target is amazing, but to see their faces when we get there will be out of this world.

“My little boy has downs syndrome, but he recently got diagnosed with severe autism, it can be so hard sometimes. This group lets me sit down and have five minutes and everyone is there for each other. We are like family to each other.

She said the group had aimed to raise the money by February 2018, and they have been blown away by how supportive the community have been.

“People have stopped us in the street and have given us money. The team at Blaina Co-Op have helped us raise hundreds of pounds. They have just been amazing. I never thought we’d raise this money so quickly.”
