A NEWPORT actor who starred in Torchwood and Doctor Who is set to join in celebrations for the Queen's Baton Relay next month.

Bettws actor Gareth David-Lloyd, who is known to millions for his portrayal of Ianto Jones in Doctor Who and Torchwood, will be coming to the city for the Queen’s Baton Relay ahead of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Mr David-Lloyd will be joining a long-list of people who will be parading the baton through Newport on the morning of Wednesday, September 6.

Among the Baton bearers includes Parkrun Newport event director Howard Mason, Lliswerry Running Club runner Christopher Davies, Newport Social Cycling Group founder John Wheat, Newport Gwent Dragons representative Gareth Bailey and councillor for Pill Tracey Holyoake.

Other participants include members of Newport Harriers Athletic Club including Charlotte Mitchell, 16, Kellen Jones, 17, and many more.

This event is being hosted by Newport City Council in partnership with Newport Live and Newport BID.
