A MAN has said he is “disappointed” after he failed in his attempt to break a the world record for the most eggs retained after a bungee jump.

David Herbert from Ynysddu, Caerphilly was challenged by ITV weather reporter Ruth Wignall to bungee jump 130ft from Cleddau Bridge at Pembroke Dock to raise funds for Bedwellty Agricultural Society and to help raise awareness of poultry and egg showing.

The egg exhibitor, poultry pundit and agricultural show devotee jumped from the bridge on September 2 whilst holding a basket containing 150 eggs.

To set a Guinness World Record Mr Herbert had to have 50 unbroken eggs at the end of the jump. Thirty eggs remained in the basket after the jump, but only five of those were unbroken and could be counted towards the record.

Mr Herbert said: “I am a little disappointed, but having never bungeed before I thoroughly enjoyed it and raised a good amount for Bedwellty Agricultural Society . I also got to talk about egg showing, its importance and raise its profile.

“It also got many conversations started about avian influenza which looks likely to return this year. Ultimately that is what it was all about, the record would have just been a little bonus for me.

“I will try it again at some point, especially now that I have some experience. In the meantime I plan to attempt more egg related stunts.

"We have World Egg Day coming up on October 13 so I’d like to do something for that.”

Mr Herbert will be competing at this year’s Usk Show. You can follow his progress at twitter.com/hermitcrabeggs
