SOME residents have slammed the Royal Mail for suspending post to their properties on a Risca Road again.

Post deliveries to Holly Road were suspended in June following concerns of “crime in the area”.

But news of the Royal Mail deciding to increase post deliveries from twice a week to four times but only to some addresses has infuriated residents.

Holly Road resident Chester Chaffey said he was confused why his post had resumed last month to later be “terminated”.

Mr Chaffey said: “I had a whole load of post last month. Nothing has happened since that delivery and it’s clear it’s been terminated.

“I was told that I’d be having my post twice a week. That wasn’t perfect because I want it every day but it was far better than not having anything at all.”

The 71-year-old said he feels that the Royal Mail has “gone back on its word”.

“I’m feeling very strongly about this,” said Mr Chaffey.

“They have gone back on their word of delivering post twice a week. If they say they’re going to do it and deliver to my address then they should keep to it.

“I know they’re still delivering to some houses but what about the rest of us?”

He added: “The council and the post office need to find a solution.”

Another resident Gareth Jones said: “Who is the Royal Mail? Our letter boxes have cobwebs on because they’re not being used.

“I had to go to pick up my post and get my driving licence miles away on Friday.

“I worked out that the journey cost me over £5 in petrol money. I don’t have that sort of money to spend.”

He added: “The thing that we find stressing is that we’re not being told anything.

“Neither the council nor the Royal Mail have told us what will happen.”

Another resident, who did not want to be named, added: “They’ve stopped my post again. I got post last month but for some reason they’ve stopped it again.”

Sally Hopkins, who is a spokeswoman for Royal Mail, said: “Royal Mail has resumed deliveries four days a week to some residents in Holly Road, effective from September 4.

“We will be monitoring the situation closely and will be undertaking a further risk assessment with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) regarding deliveries to all addresses.

“We will need to assess the situation before any decision can be taken on resuming daily mail deliveries to residents.

“In the meantime, customers are able to collect mail from our delivery office, or request us to deliver it to an alternative address in the area.”

She added: “We continue to work with the CWU and the council to find a way to resume deliveries safely to addresses in Holly Road.

“One option we have suggested would be for the council to install mail boxes on the ground floors of the blocks of flats.”

A spokesman for Caerphilly council added: “The council continues to work with the Royal Mail and we hope this matter can be resolved as soon as possible in the best interests of all concerned.”
