A DEVASTATED family are appealing for information on a missing parrot.

Layla Khan, who lives on Hendre Farm Drive, Newport, has spoken of her family's "sadness" after their pet parrot - Zain - escaped from the house.

Mrs Khan said: "Zain is a two-year-old African grey parrot. He's a beautiful animal.

"He has his own room in our house next door to our kitchen.

"But about two weeks ago the wind blew his door open and he escaped through the the back door two weeks ago."

She added: "We ran after Zain but couldn't catch him.

"I remember my husband trying his hardest to catch Zain."

Mrs Khan said the situation is particularly upsetting for her children.

"I really, really hope we can find him," said Mrs Khan. "My children are upset and want him back.

"Zain won't be able to fly for very long so I'm worrying about him.

"Zain is a lovely pet and he's adored by my children. You can probably understand that my children are hurting because they don't have Zain.

"My daughter stands by the cage looking for him - it's upsetting."

She added: "If anyone has information please get in touch."
