A SMALL piece of land in Newport which has lain unused for 27 years could be sold off to a private developer.
The 0.55-hectare area between Acacia Avenue and Aberthaw Road in Somerton was previously used as a works depot, but has not been used since 1990.
Now Newport City Council is considering a proposal to sell off the area, which is concreted and fenced off, but, a report, said, is considered “of no strategic or economic value to the authority”.
A report presented to council members said Newport City Homes had enquired whether the council would consider selling the site, with officers saying “there is no reason in principle that the site could not be redeveloped for residential use”.
The council’s deputy leader Cllr Mark Whitcutt is due to make a decision on the plan this week.
