HOTELS in Gwent are close to capacity as fans prepare to travel to Wales for a highly anticipated heavyweight title boxing match.

At what is set to be one of the biggest boxing events of the year, WBC and IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua faces Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev at Cardiff's Principality stadium on October 28.

Tickets went on sale for the fight yesterday SEPT 12 and fans are searching for hotels in Gwent as most rooms in the capital are already sold out or are at highly inflated prices.

According to Booking.com, 96 per cent of the hotels in Newport are full on the night of the fight.

There are no rooms available at the Premier Inn hotels in in Ebbw Vale, Cwmbran, Abergavenny, Ebbw Vale, Pontypool, The Coldra or Monmouth.

Boxing fans will find that there are still rooms available in the region, but availability is low and room prices are, in many cases, 
The cheapest double room is at the Newport Student Village £85, while the city centre Travelodge is fully booked.

The Victoria Hotel on Corporation Road has some single rooms available, but the only double room they have is £450 for the night.
The Ibis Budget, located on Malpas Road in Newport, which is usually available for £34 a night, has limited number of double rooms priced at £200.

The Celtic Manor in Newport is also fully booked, while the nearby Holiday Inn at The Coldra has four double rooms available at ‎£141.
Magor has two hotels along the M4, the Hampton by Hilton which has double rooms available for £249, and the Days Inn hotel at the Road Chef services which is fully booked.

Further afield the Best Western Pontypool Metro Hotel, where the usual room rate is in the region of £59 for a double room, has rooms available for £495 on the night.

On the other end of the price spectrum, the Ramada Resort Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel & Spa has a few suites available starting at £140.
