AN ARGUS reporter will be holding a bake sale today [TH] to raise funds for a Gwent hospice.
Estel Farell-Roig will be one of the people taking part in an abseil from the Newport transporter bridge on Saturday, October 7 to raise money for the paper’s 125 Appeal.
The appeal has already raised thousands of pounds to support the work of St David’s Hospice Care, who offer a range of services to people across Gwent.
Ahead of the abseil, the 23-year-old will be holding a bake sale in the Argus’ offices today. Ms Farell-Roig said: “I am not a very confident baker so I will be preparing some brownies and flapjacks - they are easy.
“I will also be making a Spanish omelette to bring a taste of my country.”
Other staff in the newsroom will also be getting involved, with editor Nicole Garnon baking some cookies and muffins. Reporter Angharad Williams will be bringing a lemon cake, while reporter Alice Rose will be making a cheesecake.
“I enjoy baking in my spare time, so it is good to put my baking skills to work for a good cause,” said Miss Rose.
Although the abseil will be a day Ms Farell-Roig will never forget, raising money for the hospice is the focus of the challenge.
“I hope I can raise as much as money as I can,” she said. “Through my work at the South Wales Argus I have learnt what a difference St David’s Hospice make.”
Cake donations are more than welcome. Please pop in our office in Cardiff Road, Newport, to drop them off.
