BROK Harris would say yes if Wales came calling but the prop’s prime concern is turning the Dragons’ fortunes around to help his young teammates put themselves on the Test radar, writes Chris Kirwan.

The 32-year-old South African has been a huge hit since arriving at Rodney Parade from the Stormers and Western Province in the autumn of 2014.

He has racked up 78 appearances and last winter penned a two-year contract extension to remain at the Dragons until at least 2019.

Harris’ compatriot and teammate Rynard Landman is eligible to play for Wales on residency terms and the prop will follow suit in six weeks.

Given his ability to play either side of the scrum and undoubted quality, the Dragons prop would be good option for Warren Gatland if the national team are hit by front row injuries.

Harris says he would be honoured… but all he is thinking about is helping his region make strides over the coming campaigns.

He said: “If that [Wales] opportunity came I’d definitely grab it but that’s not my focus, it’s getting the Dragons to winning ways and changing the culture and the outside perceptions of us.”

Harris has moved from tighthead to loosehead this season to free the way for bright prospect Leon Brown to wear 3 on his back.

The props have joined forces with 23-year-old hooker Elliot Dee at the start of the season to great effect and Harris believes the two Gwent prospects can push themselves onto the international stage.

“I said to Elliot two seasons ago before he got injured that he needs to be in the Welsh squad, he’s got the talent and the head to do it,” said the South African.

“For me Elliot is definitely one of the best hookers for the future of Welsh rugby and it’s the same for Leon, he has the talent and the mindset.

“From where he started and where he is now is a massive leap. I think he is going to grow as he gets more game time and experience.

“Leon has got a bright future ahead of him – his work rate is good and his scrummaging has improved quite a lot.”

Dragons boss Bernard Jackman makes three changes to the XV that lost 35-18 in Edinburgh with flanker Ollie Griffiths (hip), scrum-half Sarel Pretorius (calf) and centre Jack Dixon (groin) returning.

Hooker and summer recruit from London Irish Gerard Ellis is set for a debut from the bench while fly-half Dorian Jones, back rower Robson Blake and loosehead Thomas Davies feature for the first time this season.
