RYAN Adams calls Phoenix, Arizona country discovery Courtney Marie Andrews "a phenomenal songwriter"; Damien Jurado employs her as his lead guitarist; and she has been on the restless road from the age of 16.

You may have seen her on Later...With Jools Holland or, better still, up close at Leeds Brudenell Social Club last month, where the focus was on this year's Honest Life, her "crossroads record", written when heartbroken and homesick for family and friends in the USA but stuck in Belgium.

Loose Recordings, the British label with sound judgement and impeccable taste, have seen fit to reissue her previous album, 2013's On My Page, which was hardly on anyone's page at the time but certainly should be on yours now.

This is classic country, as pure of voice as Emmylou Harris, with exquisitely weighted musicianship that knows when to apply violin, piano and pedal steel to songs of lonely dreams and left-handed angels. Andrews was "super-broke" when she made it, but she deserves to make a super-breakthrough.
