SIR Alan Ayckbourn's gala celebration of his 60 years with the Stephen Joseph Theatre Company continues with the second evening of A Brief History Of Plays on Sunday at the SJT in Scarborough.

The 78-year-old playwright, director and former SJT artistic director had first arrived at the theatre, then known as the Library Theatre, as an 18-year-old stage manager and actor in 1957.

At 7pm on Sunday, he will host the second of his two events featuring extracts from a selection of his 81 plays performed by some of the many actors he has worked with over the years. Last Sunday, he discussed his first 30 years in Scarborough, covering Man Of The Moment to House & Garden; this weekend, the focus will be on 1987 to 2017, from Damsels In Distress to Hero's Welcome.

Last week, actors Bill Champion, Liza Goddard, Robin Herford, Christopher Godwin and Heather Stoney joined this summer's SJT repertory company to present extracts that began with Ayckbourn's earliest work from 1959, the unpublished Love After All.

On Sunday, Godwin and Stoney return, this time accompanied by Matthew Cottle and Janie Dee and 2017 rep players Russell Dixon, Antony Eden, Jessica Johnson, Sean McKenzie, Frances Marshall, Laura Matthews, Laurence Pears, Louise Shuttleworth, Gurjeet Singh, Leigh Symonds and Amy Trigg, as Ayckbourn "reunites with some old friends, performers, playgoers and plays".

The two gala evenings are fund-raisers with proceeds going to the SJT’s ongoing programme of developing new work. Tickets for Sunday cost £75, to include programme, a glass of Prosecco and a post-show reception, or £35 for the show, on 01723 370541 or at sjt.uk.com
