A NEW Co-op store which will create 15 jobs in Monmouth was opened by pupils from one of the town’s schools last week.

Students and staff from Overmonnow Primary School, along with Cllr Jamie Treharne, were guests of honour at the opening of the new £550,000 store in Rockfield Road.

The new store, which also boasts an in-store bakery, marks a return to the community for the chain.

It will bring a funding boost to local community groups through its Membership scheme which has seen the likes of Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club, Usk in Bloom and Abbyfield Usk sign up.

Steven Beddoes, store manager, said: “We are delighted to have made such a significant investment in Monmouth and we have received great feedback about the Co-op returning to the area.

“It is an exciting time for the whole team to be involved in the opening of the Co-op’s newest food store.”

There are offers and promotions in and around the store to mark its launch. Students in Monmouth holding the NUS extra card will also receive a 10 per cent discount off their groceries.
