ONLINE registrations for this year’s The Great Gwent Poppy Run have now opened.

The event, which is one of Gwent Royal British Legion’s main fundraising events with proceeds going to the Poppy Appeal, will be held in Penpergwm, Monmouthshire.

The 10-mile long course - which is called Trenches and Tribulations - will see participants cross the "battlefield through the mud and smoke" into "no man's land".

The event aims to commemorate the Battle of the Passchendaele in 1917, which lasted from July 31 to November 10.

The Gwent county vice-chairman for the Royal British Legion and Poppy Appeal co-ordinator Mike Jones previously said: “The run is a great way to fundraise and raise the profile of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy appeal.”

Last year's run, which is now in its seventh year, saw 231 participants take part,

It will take place at 12 noon on November 5.
