HUNDREDS of cycling enthusiasts flocked to a Newport park over the weekend as a popular bike-themed event returned.

On Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24, heritage attraction Tredegar House invited families to celebrate all things cycling, from maintenance to high-flying tricks.

Building on the success of last year's event, the Family Cycling Festival aimed to present a wide spectrum of bike-themed activities and a range of ride for all skill levels.

On Saturday, between 10.30am and 4pm, the heritage attraction's grounds were packed with action events, showcasing experienced riders defying gravity with the help of mobile ramps.

Performers on the day included the Blue Phoenix Marching Jazz Band, the Savage Skills Anti-Gravity Show and a BMX track for visitors to have a go.

A professional cycle maintenance team also attended the event to get bikes fixed and road ready.

On Sunday, Tredegar House - along with partners Sustrans, Newport Social Cycling and Breeze - organised a range of rides for all skill levels.

A Tredegar House spokeswoman said the event aims to encourage "families of all generations out on their bikes enjoying our local communities and beyond".

This included "building confidence in riding in groups or just to socialising with others and, perhaps, trying new routes- the majority of which are traffic free."
