PRESSURE is mounting on a Welsh minister to visit Chepstow residents to discuss proposals to build a bypass, the AM for Monmouth has said.

Nick Ramsay said he was “disappointed” to learn that economic secretary Ken Skates would not be attending a site meeting to talk about a feasibility study.

Mr Ramsay has pressed Mr Skates to visit the area for months to meet those concerned about heavy traffic along the A48 and the risk that housing developments - such as Mabey Bridge - pose to increasing that congestion.

The Conservative AM said that he has received a “considerable amount” of correspondence from his constituents, adding: “Understandably, pressure is mounting, with concerns about the effect the planned new housing at Mabey Bridge would have on the existing infrastructure.

“Mr Skates has apologised for not being able to attend but has asked an official to take the matter forward.

“I hope a meeting can be set up as soon as possible. Chepstow is likely to see a considerable amount of development over the next decade so it is vital that we have a comprehensive plan for the town’s infrastructure.”
