THE return of the popular fundraiser Hoggin’ the Bridge is fast approaching as it makes its first appearance in Caldicot since it began.

The charity rally will follow its traditional route from Aust across the Severn Bridge before finishing at Caldicot Castle for the first time on Sunday, October 8.

The event, which started as a few bikes escorting people during a sponsored walk, has since raised thousands for local and national charities since starting in 2000.

Last year, more than 1,600 bikers rode through Chepstow, Caldicot, Magor, Undy and Rogiet before finishing at Chepstow Racecourse.

Organisers are also planning to set up a ‘cheer zone’ in Caldicot town centre.

Up to 2,000 people would be able to fit inside the area, which would include a large screen for spectators to watch thousands of motorbikes ride through, and a PA system.

Speaking to the Argus earlier this year, organisers said that the new location will represent a “better deal” for participants, traders and spectators.

Aaron Reeks, a Hoggin’ the Bridge committee member of seven years and director of Caldicot Town Team, said: “We’re delighted to bring it to Caldicot Castle to showcase the wonderful facilities that is has.”

The rally had been previously held at Chepstow Racecourse and Chepstow town centre. To book tickets and buy assorted memorabilia can be purchased at hoggin-the-bridge.co.uk/Cubecart.
