BEDWAS chief Ian Gardner expects tomorrow’s showdown with former Bridge Field supremo Steve Law’s Cardiff to be a “real humdinger”.

Law returns to his old club with the Arms Park outfit (kick-off 2.30pm) for the first time since leaving in the summer after 16 years of service.

Gardner is looking forward to locking horns with his friend, the Blue and Blacks’ director of rugby, on the field before enjoying a couple of beverages together in the clubhouse afterwards.

It’s a top-of-the-table showdown in the Principality Premiership’s eastern conference, with Bedwas currently heading Cardiff by two points.

“Steve is doing a really good job at Cardiff, as their results have shown,” said Gardner.

“He said Cardiff were a sleeping giant and a club of their standing shouldn’t be in the bottom three like they were.

“It’s a great project for him to be involved in and he has already got them heading in the right direction.”

He added: “There’s always a bit of extra spice when someone who was coaching a team goes back there, and I don’t think it’s any different this time.

“Some players also went from Bedwas to Cardiff when Steve moved so it’s going to be a real humdinger.

“A few players have joked that it is Bedwas first and second in the league table at the moment!”

Losing for the first time as Bedwas head coach at Cross Keys last Saturday was an “inevitable” experience for Gardner rather than a new one.

He was happy to accept Keys thoroughly deserved their 25-22 win over the previously unbeaten table-toppers, but now it’s about how his men react to that loss.

Lock Craig Hudd (concussion) is out for Bedwas but back-rower Morgan Allen and hooker Alun Rees return.
