A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “Following reports received yesterday regarding a three-year-old child being attacked by a dog, the owner of the dog has been located and the family of the child has been visited by officers."

She added: “We can confirm the child wasn’t bitten and the issue is being dealt with by community resolution with the owner agreeing to keep the dog on a lead at all times whilst in public.”

GWENT Police are appealing for information after a three-year-old was attacked by a dog. 

A spokeswoman from Gwent Police said: "At approximately 12.50pm today, we received a report that a three-year-old child had been bitten by a dog and sustained minor injuries.    

"The incident happened in the Cromwell Road area of Newport."

The dog is described as a grey Staffordshire Terrier type.
