PLANS to build two large industrial buildings in Llanwern have been given the green light.

Newport City Council's planning committee granted the application for two buildings with 2,457 sq m and 1,682 sq m of floor space respectively at a vacant site off Plover Close, on the Queensway Meadows Estate earlier today, Wednesday.

Both buildings will be subdivided into smaller units and used for business, industrial, storage or distribution.

The application was approved despite one existing business at the park saying it would exacerbate traffic and parking problems and damage the visual amenity of the area.

A report presented to committee members said: “The proposals represent the development of urban land which is situated within an established business estate and would provide economic benefits.

“It is considered that the proposals would not result in a detrimental impact to the local highways networks, ecological interests or the character of the area.”
