THE Tour de Gwent has moved dates to avoid clashing with the Newport Marathon.

It was annouced yesterday that Newport would host the first ABP Newport Wales Marathon on April 29, 2018 - which would have clashed with The Tour de Gwent.

The Tour de Gwent is a fundraising event in aid of St David's Hospice Care, set amid some of the scenery in South East Wales.

In a statement in the Tour de Gwent's Facebook page, it says: "After much consideration, we have decided to change the date to Sunday, April 15, 2018 after the announcement of the Newport Marathon.

"We are currently updating the website, and will go live very soon to take entries but in the meantime you can update your calendars.

"Your support is extremely important to us, and we do hope to see you back in 2018.

"Please share this information, and keep checking the TDG Website for further updates including facebook.

"Thank you for your patience."

A spokesman for St David's Hospice Care said: "We have decided, after consultation, to switch the date of the Whitehead Tour De Gwent cycle event from Sunday, April 29, 2018, the date for the Newport Marathon, to Sunday, April 15, 2018, so as to avoid potential traffic implications of staging two major events on the same day."
