A WOMAN has decided to provide an outlet to her frustrations with having dyslexia by holding an exhibition for Dyslexia Awareness Week.

Stephanie Roberts, of the Allt-Yr-Yn area of Newport, is an artist who has had dyslexia all her life.

Ms Roberts said the idea for the exhibition - which is at The Riverfront in Newport - came about when she got in contact with the Arts Council of Wales about getting funding for her work.

She said her dyslexia made filling out the form difficult and she fell into a state of depression.

She said: “It was so difficult as I was trying to put across what I wanted but it just wasn’t happening. It was horrible and the dyslexia was hand-in-hand with depression.

“Dyslexia affects a lot of people in different ways and I thought that I could interpret that in my art work.”

Ms Roberts then said this struggle gave her the idea of the exhibition, which took her nine months to work on.

She describes the exhibition explores the “individual wrestling with the limitations and disabling aspects of dyslexia.”

As well as the exhibition in The Riverfront which is on until mid November, there will be one in the Newport Museum and Art Gallery until November 3.
