MORE than 450 people turned up to celebrate the creativity and diversity of Newport at the V Awards on the weekend.

The 2017 V Awards were held at Tiny Rebel Brewery Bar Rogerstone and the celebration started at 7pm with Capital Radio’s Breakfast show DJs Matt and Polly hosting the awards.

General manager and founder of the V Awards Chris Evans said: “This year’s V’s were all about celebrating the creativity and diversity of Newport, and also within its surrounding towns and villages across South East Wales.

“For the past three months we’ve been inundated with people voting for their favourite local businesses, both online and by mail, with this year’s estimated vote total reaching more than 80,000.

“There were 56 separate winners in total, all of which you can see in November’s edition of Voice – always out for the 1st of every month.”

Winners included Newport Now BID winning Event of the Year, Friars Walk winning the Shopping Centre of the Year Award and Sglod’s winning Fish and Chip Shop of the Year.

Mr Evans said: “These one-of-a-kind pieces can be proudly displayed on the desks or receptions of our winner’s businesses, and we have no doubt that they will become a highly sought-after piece of memorabilia in the years to come

“Tiny Rebel Brewery was a fantastic location to hold the awards, and we’d like to say a big thank you to all who were involved to make the night a huge success.”

He added: “The main reason we hold the V Awards is to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care.”
