A GRADE II-listed house and gardens in Blaenau Gwent was turned into a venue for a ‘blood-curdling’ horror film.

Bedwellty House in Tredegar was the set of werewolf movie ‘Blood Moon’ for three weeks for Welsh film companies Green Valley Films, Made In Tredegar and Cymru Creations Film and media.

The companies came together with volunteers from the Blaenau Gwent Film School to produce the film - which is about a werewolf hunting a group of young people in the grounds of a Victorian manor house.

Kevin Phillips, director of Green Valley Films, said the idea for the film came from one of the volunteers - Leigh Jones - who helped write the script and stars as the wolfman.

Mr Phillips said: “It’s an old fashion horror movie: most of the cast have no, or very little acting experience on screen.

“But we wanted the involvement of volunteers from the film school who’s passionate about being part of the production and didn’t mind being covered in litres of fake blood.

“They have been amazing, some are acting, some are behind the scenes, we have some very skilful young people involved.

“I believe the involvement of young volunteers, some who have been unemployed for quite a while, really is a boost to their confidence - something that is lacking in our young people in the valleys at the moment. “

Leigh Jones, who helped write the script, said: “To get the opportunity to take the lead in writing the screen play has really helped with my confidence which was pretty low after being out of work for so long.”
