MORE must be done to support homeless ex-servicemen and women, a Gwent AM has said.
Speaking in the Senedd earlier this week South Wales East’s David Rowlands said he was concerned some former armed forced personnel may fall through the net of health and social services.
Addressing communities and children secretary Carl Sargeant the Ukip AM said: “We in Wales are proud of our armed forces and the work they do on our behalf.
“We must remember it is the politicians who sent them into conflict, therefore it is incumbent upon politicians to ensure they’re looked after when they leave the service.
“Even given all the interventions that I know the Welsh Government has done, and they are to be applauded for that, we still find that there are those who slip through the net and are still sleeping rough on our streets.”
Mr Sargeant said it was important a UK-wide solution to the problem was developed and called on Westminster to take action.
